Sweden · Enabling onboard edge-AI processor research

SPEED / Sirius EDGE processor research

This project focuses on enabling onboard edge-AI processor research.

SPEED develops energy-efficient onboard processing for satellites and UAVs as a foundation for AAC Clyde Space's Sirius EDGE processor. Spacemetric coordinates the work with AAC Clyde Space and KTH. The study combines CPU/GPU hosts, FPGA acceleration, a path to SiLago-based ASICs and Bluestone image processing. Its planned laboratory demonstrator is not a flown Sirius EDGE system.

NEXT MILESTONE

Laboratory demonstrator and KPI testing. Vinnova's Swedish record updated October 8, 2026 lists February 2027 completion, while older English, programme and issuer accounts retain December or Q4 2026.

Manual review with evidence gaps 2 Nov 2026. Official project, agency and issuer sources compared on November 2. Planned processor and software research is supported. The newer Swedish agency end date differs from older accounts, and funding-component overlap remains unresolved. No SPEED flight result is established. Primary body last observed not available. Source monitoring: unavailable. Source collection and substantive profile review are separate checks. Plans and dates may change.

WHAT REMAINS UNKNOWN
  • Final CPU/GPU/FPGA/ASIC models, counts, arithmetic precision and measured throughput are not established in the reviewed project material.
  • RAM, storage capacity, absolute power, cooling limits, mass, dimensions, flight orbit and mission lifetime are not disclosed for the SPEED demonstrator.
  • Newer Swedish Vinnova record lists February 2027 completion. Its older English record and the programme page retain December 2026, and the December 2025 issuer release gives Q4 2026. No completed demonstrator result was located.
  • The issuer's SEK 4.7 million award, Vinnova's SEK 2.3 million contribution and the programme's SEK 6.2 million total budget have different stated scopes. The Vinnova component is not added as a separate transaction until the overlap is resolved.
  • Bluestone's general flight heritage does not establish that SPEED or Sirius EDGE has flown.
