DLR Stellar Apps / ScOSA application platform
This project focuses on shared onboard application platform research.
DLR's Stellar Apps develops a hardware-independent platform for isolated, updateable third-party applications on spacecraft. It builds on ScOSA distributed computing and a ground prototype. DLR plans seven applications and a test during CAPTn-1's second mission year. This is not a confirmed operating orbital app store or a reported completed Stellar Apps flight demonstration.

Scope: Shared computing & storage · Shared research/platform infrastructure for multiple applications and experimenters, without assuming operating commercial service.
Figures retain their disclosed units and scope. Launched hardware does not establish demonstrated performance; targets may change. Not disclosed means no figure in the reviewed sources.
Program organization: German Aerospace Center (DLR)
Supplier selected
Raspberry Pi 4 Model B nodes are used in the distributed Stellar Apps ground prototype.
Ground prototype manufacturer provenance only. No Raspberry Pi CAPTn-1 flight installation, node count, purchase order or paid procurement established. Additional official technical/role evidence: https://elib.dlr.de/222271/1/EDHPC_2025_Stellar_Apps___accepted_version.pdf
Announced Publication date not supplied · Evidence checked 1 Nov 2026
Read a dated mission-specific result or revised flight-test milestone when available.
Manual review with evidence gaps 1 Nov 2026. Compared DLR project description and preliminary-design paper. Recorded isolated-app architecture, ground Raspberry Pi prototype and planned seven-app campaign. Kept ScOSA/LEON/Zynq flight-target context and future RISC-V board separate. CAPTn-1/current ScOSA pages were unavailable, so no launch or Stellar Apps flight result is inferred. Primary body last observed not available. Source monitoring: partial. Source collection and substantive profile review are separate checks. Plans and dates may change.
A dated CAPTn-1 launch/current mission-state and completed Stellar Apps orbital result were not established in the reviewed readable material. Current mission/ScOSA reference pages returned 503 on ordinary reads.
Installed configuration of the updated Stellar Apps flight computer, exact RAM/storage, electrical and thermal budgets and benchmark throughput are undisclosed.
ScOSA's precursor hardware and its five-application target are separate from the seven Stellar Apps applications and the prototype. A planned RISC-V reference board is not flight-selected hardware.
